Sonnang is currently a member of the Nigerian Bar Association, the Cameroon Bar Association, the African Bar Association and the International Bar Association. He is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators.
He holds an LLB. from the University of Buea and an LLM. in International Trade Law from the prestigious University of Ibadan in Nigeria.
Before getting into full-time legal practice as an advocate, he worked for over 8 years as an in-house counsel with a top transportation company in Cameroon holding a major contract with Diageo.
He started his legal practice at the law office of the reverred Barrister Luke K. Sendze (Former Bar President) who is the most venerated legal personnality in Cameroon. He spent four years at the firm where he worked in the corporate and property division. He was actively involved in the legal representation of a major multi-national telecommunications company in Cameroon with operations over the national territory. As a Notary-public, he assisted in many important property transactions particularly involving a major down stream petroleum company.
With all the experience garnered as both in-house and external counsel, he set up Keystone Tax and Legal in 2017 to put his expertise at the service of other corporate bodies.
Sonnang has participated in the incorporation of over one hundred and fifty (150) companies in Cameroon. He has substantial experience in project financing and propert transactions. In 2016, he assisted a major agricultural conglomerate to acquire vast expanses of land for the development of their agricultural activies. He has also advised and assisted clients in major transcations like refinancing and restructuring of corporate loans. With his wealth of in-house practise he has experience in corporate management which means that he is able to sit on the boards of many companies on behalf his clients.
He was on the team of lawyers that advised on a major transfer of ownership in major telecommunication equipment particularly the antennas.
He advised a major Cameroonian shipping company in the transfer of one of their ships to another corporate entity of Congolese nationality making sure that all necessary regulatory requirements were complied and assents acquired.
He has assisted many foreign investors intending to set up in Cameroon, carrying out due diligence, providing legal assistance, advice and preparing legal documentation.
Sonnang is currently preparing a Doctoral research proposal on Oil and Gas Law which is an area in which he is strongly interested.
Sonnang is bilingual with a perfect mastery of English and French. He also speaks and writes broken English commonly referred to as pidgin English. He is a Formula One fan, loves classical music and plays tennis regularly.
